GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State University Cross Country teams competed at the ECU Pirates Invitational at Overton's Lake Kristi on Saturday morning. The field was highlighted by ACC member Duke and North Carolina State, host East Carolina, MEAC member Norfolk State, and a host of other Division I schools. St. Augustine's marked the only other CIAA member in the field of 12 teams.
"This was a tough field to compete against and I was proud of the way that our team took on that challenge" said ECSU head coach Daphne Johnson. "I am just really proud of the way these teams have competed all season long and am looking forward to their performance at the CIAA Championships next week."
The men's team ran an 8k course and was paced by senior Hyshem Statem who posted a course time of 30:43.
Jonquin Elliott followed shortly behind with a time of 31:20.
Noah Gunter (33:52),
Clifton Pope (37:21) and Jaylah Hunter (37:57) rounded out the effort for the Vikings.
The women's team ran an 6k course and was paced by sophomore
Nyla Harris with a time of 30:04.
Jalyn Brown (32:49), Latrina Gatlin (34:12),
Theresa Kronlage (34:39) and
Makayla Sutton (37:27) finished out the meet for ECSU.
The Vikings will complete their season at the CIAA Championships in Salem, Virginia on October 24-25.
