Final Stats
RALEIGH, NC- Marquie Cooke sank two free throws with 2.8 seconds left to give the Elizabeth City State Vikings a 48-46 win over the Shaw University Monday night at Spaulding Gymnasium.
Defense was instrumental for both teams in the evening's matchup. The Bears held ECSU to just 17 made field goals while conversely the Vikings held Shaw to 16-44 shots from the floor.
The defensive looks ECSU gave Shaw gave kept the Bears off kilter most of the night as they forced an opponent season high 29 turnovers which led to 21 points. The Bears had very little to show for their dominance on the offensive glass; although they corralled 15 of their own missed shots they only converted them into six second chance points.
Shaw (10-5, CIAA 3-3) held a 44-27 rebounding edge in the game and was led by Tony Smith's 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Rondy Tucker was the high man for the Vikings with 12 points.
