RALEIGH, NC- Trent Bivens scored a career and game high 23 points, 14 of which came in the second half, as the Elizabeth City State Vikings squeaked out a 74-68 win over Shaw University Tuesday night at Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Bears (3-9, CIAA 1-4) seemingly could not miss in the second half, shooting a scorching 52% from the field. With 2:32 left in the game Shaw held a 68-63 advantage after a layup by Rodney Callwood. Luckily for the Vikings that would be the final time the Bears would score from either the field or the charity stripe. Beginning with a free throw by Jamal Rouse and a subsequent Mel Johnson three-pointer, the Vikings closed the game on an 11-0 run to secure the victory.
The Bears and Vikings were knotted at 34 points at the intermission.
Raheem Smith paced Shaw with 18 points.
