Final Stats
BOWIE, MD- April Whitaker nailed a 15 foot jumper with .5 seconds remaining to give the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings an 72-71 road victory over Bowie State University Tuesday evening at the A.C. Jordan Arena.
On the previous possession a whistled foul on Courtney Scott with 7 seconds left sent Bowie's Bianca Lee to the free throw line with the home team trailing 70-69. Lee calmly sank both free throws to give BSU (8-9, CIAA 7-3) a 71-70 lead. ECSU then in-bounded the ball, drove the length of the court and Joyce Freeman found Whitaker open at the free throw line for the last score of the game.
The win snaps a six game losing skid for ECSU and gives the Lady Vikings their first victory against a conference opponent this year.
Returning to the home state, Maryland native Briana Glover scored a team best 19 points along with 5 assists, a block and a steal. ECSU placed three others in double figures including Ashley Anderson (16) Joyce Freeman (14) and Kearah Jefferys (12).
Teaunsha Robinson scored a team high 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
ECSU (3-14, CIAA 1-9) will host Fayetteville State University Thursday, January 29 at 5:30pm at the RL Vaughan Center. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
