RALEIGH, NC-Elizabeth City State University head football coach Waverly Tillar has been named the 2008 CIAA Coach of the Year as announced at the CIAA Champions Luncheon Friday afternoon.

This season Tillar, who is in his sixth year at the helm of the ECSU program, has steered the Vikings to a 7-3 overall record and (CIAA 7-0) and was the only CIAA team to go undefeated against conference opponents. This is the Vikings' second Eastern Division crown and Championship game appearance in the past three seasons. This is also Tillar's second time being named the Coach of the Year (2006).

The Vikings will look to capture the school's first Championship since 1971 when they take the field against Shaw University Saturday at 1:00pm at Durham County Stadium in Durham, NC. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
