CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Elizabeth City State linebacker Chris Calhoun has been named the CIAA Linebacker of the Week after a standout performance against nationally ranked No. 23 Johnson C. Smith. The San Diego, California native was flying all over the field, registering a season-high 14 total tackles with six solo and eight assisted stops. Calhoun's effort anchored the Vikings' defense, keeping pressure on the Golden Bulls throughout the game and limiting big-play opportunities. The honor underscores his impact as one of the conference's most dependable defensive playmakers and highlights his ability to rise to the occasion against top-tier competition.
It was the second week an ECSU player has been awarded CIAA Player of the Week. Traquan Johnson took home the award in Week 2 for a powerful rushing performance against Hampton. The Vikings head to the Down East Viking Classic on Saturday, facing Fayettevile State in an annual ECSU Tradition held in Rocky Mount, N.C.Â
