CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Following an electrifying 35-21 Homecoming win over Lincoln University (Pa.), the Elizabeth City State University football program earned four Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Football Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The Vikings led all CIAA programs in weekly honors, with Andrew Davis earning two recognitions, while Alex Williams and Terrance Holland each received an individual award. The honors follow ECSU's impressive all-around performance at Roebuck Stadium on Saturday, October 10.
Offensive Back of the Week / Rookie of the Week – Andrew Davis
Davis delivered an outstanding performance in the Vikings' backfield, rushing for a game-high 110 yards and one touchdown on just nine carries. Averaging 12.2 yards per carry, Davis sparked the ECSU rushing attack, which totaled 275 yards on the afternoon.
His explosive performance earned him both CIAA Offensive Back of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors.
Defensive Lineman of the Week – Alex Williams
Williams anchored an aggressive Viking defensive front that consistently disrupted Lincoln's offensive rhythm throughout Saturday's contest.
Williams recorded two sacks to lead a defensive effort that totaled six sacks and 15 tackles for loss. His presence along the defensive line helped ECSU maintain control of the contest and secure its first victory of the season.
Special Teams Player of the Week – Terrance Holland
Holland put together one of the most electrifying performances of the weekend, making an immediate impact by returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.
The dynamic playmaker followed his opening score with a 41-yard touchdown reception, helping the Vikings establish a commanding 14-0 lead early in the first quarter.
Holland finished the contest with 112 kickoff return yards, 43 receiving yards and nine rushing yards. He also blocked an extra-point attempt, showcasing his versatility across multiple phases of the game.
His performance additionally earned him College Football Network NCAA Division II Player of the Week and HBCU Player of the Week recognition.
Vikings Look to Build Momentum
The four weekly honors highlight a complete team effort that saw ECSU jump out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead. The Vikings' special teams unit delivered a particularly memorable performance, scoring three touchdowns, including two blocked punt recoveries in the end zone.
With the victory, Elizabeth City State improved to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in CIAA play.
The Vikings will look to build on their Homecoming success as they travel to Fayetteville State University on Saturday, October 17, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
