Men's Basketball Posts 79-76 Senior Day Win

Vikings beat Virginia State to win second straight at home

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University men's basketball team, with a record of (9-17 overall, 6-9 in CIAA, and 4-4 in North), secured a victory against the Virginia State Trojans (13-13, 8-8 CIAA, 4-4 North) with a score of 79-76 in Saturday's northern division match-up.

The Vikings showcased an excellent defensive performance, causing 20 turnovers that resulted in 24 points for them. The bench players also contributed significantly by scoring 50 points.

This game was special as it was senior day in the R.L. Vaughan Center, and Chris Wright, senior point guard, led the Vikings. Wright finished the game with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. He also played exceptionally well on the defensive side of the court, making 5 steals, three of which were in critical moments of the game, helping his team regain the lead and secure the win.

Reggie Raynor, also played well, scoring 16 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. He made an emphatic dunk in the first half that electrified the Vaughan Center.

The Vikings will return to their home court, the R.L. Vaughan Center, on Wednesday, for their final home game of the 2023-24 season. They will be playing against Virginia Union, tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
