ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - The Elizabeth City State women's basketball team will invite and welcome local elementary school students to campus this Tuesday for Community/Education Day.
Head coach
Tynesha Lewis celebrates the growing partnership that ECSU Athletics has established with the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County School System to bring a fun-filled day of community engagement as the Vikings host neighboring institution Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Tuesday, November 22. The contest, tipping off at 11 a.m., will mark the national recognition of Community Day and second time women's basketball has held this event consecutively. Taking place in the R.L. Vaughan Center, ECSU Athletics is expected to welcome approximately 750 elementary school students to the game.
"We are overjoyed." says Lewis, "The ability to foster an environment where the youngest of youth get the opportunity to experience what true community in it's best form looks like. The students will forever remember these moments when they storyline and recapture the events with their loved ones; we want them to remember, especially when it's 10 plus years down the road and they are considering institutions of higher learning seeking inauguration of their tertiary education".
Prior to the game, the students will embark on modified campus tour of the Wellness Center, the STEM Complex, the Ridley Student Center, the Commuter Center Bowling Alley and the R.L. Vaughan Center at 10 a.m. The student will enjoy information sessions about the importance of education and attending school after middle and high school. In the main hallway, campus volunteers will showcase the wide variety of opportunities on campus followed by entertainment with performances by the ECSU Sound of Class Band and the ECSU D'Lytes cheerleading team. Drinks and popcorn will be available for consumption during the contest.
