Box Score 2 Elizabeth City, N.C. -The Vikings claim their first win of the season with a phenomenal fifth inning comeback to split the day 1-1 against Fayetteville State University in today's doubleheader.

The Vikings improve to (1-5) to start the season after today's contests against the Broncos (1-5).

 "They played like the team I know them to be, with a little fight in them," said head coach
Erin Forbes. "This was the confidence boost we needed to propel us into the weekend."

 "It felt good to get a win," said shortstop
Alexis Monroe. "I think what made us work harder was the fact that we took this game personal. We executed when we needed to, and our defense and offense worked hard."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
- Casie Wright started the pitching efforts for the Vikings through the first five innings. #7 Sydney Smith pitched the final two innings of the game.
- The Broncos defensive unit held the Vikings to no runs or hits in the first four innings.
- The fifth inning ailed the Vikings after allowing five unanswered runs.
- Alexis Monroe scored on a run and hit a solo homerun to give the Vikings their only points of the game.
Game 2Â
- The Viking's displayed their resilience in a riveting comeback win in Game 2.
- The Bronco's jumped out in front of the Vikings 4-0 heading into the third inning.
- FSU opened the third inning with a homerun that gave the Bronco's a burst of energy.
- Down 7-0, the Vikings still had a lot of fight in them.
- ECSU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning off a single RBI left field from Alexis Blackwell, advancing Kali Flanagan.
- The turning point for the Vikings came in the fifth inning with loaded bases as Cheyan Brasseur snagged a hit for a base clearing triple bringing Bryann Loftus, Sikia Korneagy, and Monroe home to cut the deficit to 3.
- The Vikings followed up with a homer by Kali Flanagan that allowed Breanna Norman to score and keep the momentum rolling, but the Bronco's still maintained a 7-6 edge.
- ECSU sealed the deal in the final inning after a collaborative team effort led to loaded bases and a double RBI with Alexis Monroe and Isabel Mugaas scoring off a hit from Cheyan Brasseur.
