Vikings Overpower Wildcats 81-58, Improving to a 7-1 Record

Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Vikings overpowered the Wildcats of Wilmington University, capturing an 81-58 victory on the road Saturday.
 
The Vikings improve to a 7-1 start in preparation to enter conference play next week. The Vikings have a three-game home slate ahead against familiar conference opponents in Claflin, St. Augustine's, and Fayetteville State.

ECSU shot 46.1 percent (35 of 76) from the field, 47.1 percent (8 of 17) from behind the arc, and 75 percent (3 of 4) at the line.
 
Wilmington University shot 42.9 percent from the field (27of 63), 25 percent (1 of 4) from the arc, and went 60 percent (3 of 5) at the line.
 
Senior guard Felicia Jackson (Gainesville, FL) gave an outstanding effort with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Junior forward Sireann Pitts (Raleigh, NC), recorded a double-double defensively leading the Vikings with 11 rebounds and 15 points. Senior guard Iya Holley-Reid (Norfolk, VA) followed up with 14 points, and senior forward Naterria Luster (Richmond, VA) added 12 points. 
 
Kiara Eubanks and Sabreen Muslim led Wilmington University, both scoring 14 points.
 
The Vikings put together a complete effort on both sides of the floor for a complete four quarters, outscoring the Wildcats in each stanza. 
 
A 19-6 run in the opening quarter sparked by a jumper from Luster lit a match for ECSU and the Vikings never looked back.
 
Throughout non-conference play the Vikings have showcased their depth and proved that any day or night could be anybody's game. Saturday was just a stellar shooting day for Jackson who racked up a season-high performance across the board in points and shooting percentages.
 
The Vikings outscored Wilmington 21-9 off turnovers and were able to get the bench involved in the scoring action. 
 
The Vikings will be back in action on Thursday, December 16th, against the Panthers of Claflin University in the R.L. Vaughan Center. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 PM.
