VIKINGS ENTER CIAA TENNIS TOURNAMENT AS SIXTH SEED

Box Score
BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie State University Women's Tennis team evened their record against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday morning.  The match was held at Bowie State University just on the eve of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

The  Vikings started strong, winning the doubles point and the first two singles courts.  But, after jumping out to a 3-0 lead the Bulldogs battled back to take the last four singles courts and win the match 4-3.

This year's ECSU Women's Tennis team has set the bar high heading into the conference tournament.  They finished regular season play at 4-8 in the CIAA and 4-9 overall.  Elizabeth City State enters the tournament as the sixth seed, and will face a strong #3 seed Virginia State University team.  ECSU and VSU met twice during conference play with Virginia State taking every court.

Head Coach Richard Harfst commented, "It's been a great season.  The players have grown on and off the court.  The Athletic Department overall is getting healthier and stronger.  The players on this team have definitely exceeded my expectations."

Although facing a strong opponent in Virginia State University the Vikings will go into the match with the satisfaction and confidence of having put in a historic season.  "It has been the most successful season of my time here.  We have the most match wins, the highest seed for us in the tournament, and we are in the tournament for the third year in a row.  The team lost today, but they know what they've done.  They're ready to keep pushing.  They'll be ready tomorrow."

Conference play begins tomorrow morning at the Bowie State University Tennis Complex.
