BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Elizabeth City State tennis team competed at the CIAA Tennis Round Up this past weekend in Bluefield, WV, going 2-2 over the course of two days.

Elizabeth City State University women's tennis opened its weekend with a dominant 6-0 sweep over Livingstone College in CIAA action.

The Vikings controlled the match from start to finish, earning victories across the lineup in both singles and doubles play.

In singles competition, Kala Price battled at the top spot before her opponent retired after a tightly contested opening set. Reichel Freytes followed with a strong performance at No. 2, winning in straight sets, while Nadhira Durham picked up a victory by retirement after taking an early lead.

ECSU continued its dominance down the lineup as Marley Renner secured a 6-2 lead before her match was halted, and Micah Williams rolled to a 6-1 advantage before another retirement. Kennedy Rollins added the final point by default to complete the singles sweep.

In doubles action, the Vikings set the tone early. The duo of Marley Renner / Reichel Freytes earned a convincing 6-1 victory, while Micah Williams / Kennedy Rollins added another win by default. The pairing of Kala Price / Nadhira Durham was tied midway through their match before play concluded.

Elizabeth City State University women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to Shaw University on March 21 in CIAA play. Shaw secured the victory with four singles wins, all in straight sets, to clinch the match.

At No. 4 singles, Marley Renner faced Halley Banda, who earned a 6-0, 6-0 win. Micah Williams competed at No. 5 against Allan Antonyan, falling 6-0, 6-1, while Kennedy Rollins dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Veronika Phillippova at No. 6.

In the top half of the lineup, Kala Price (No. 1), Reichel Freytes (No. 2), and Nadhira Durham (No. 3) were in action against Serena Teluwo, Camilla Angiani-Mortino, and Tanaka Garikai, respectively, but those matches were halted once Shaw clinched the team victory.

ECSU carried that momentum into singles competition. At No. 2, Reichel Freytes battled through a three-set thriller against Mikayla Stewart, dropping the first set 6-7 before responding with a 6-3, 10-6 finish to earn the point.

Nadhira Durham added a strong straight-set victory at No. 3, defeating Kyla Burns 6-3, 6-1, while Marley Renner matched that effort at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Iyana Nickens.

At the top of the lineup, Kala Price pushed her match to a deciding third set against Mckinley Battle, falling 3-6, 3-6, 3-10 in a competitive battle. Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 featuring Micah Williams and Kennedy Rollins were unfinished once the Vikings clinched the team victory.

The Elizabeth City State University women's tennis team dropped a close 4–3 match to Johnson C. Smith University in a competitive non-conference matchup at Bluefield.

ECSU opened the day by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles courts. The No. 2 doubles team of Marley Renner and Kala Price earned a 6–4 victory, while Micah Williams and Kennedy Rollins picked up a win by default at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point for the Vikings.

In singles play, the Golden Bulls rallied by winning four singles courts to secure the team victory. Marley Renner earned ECSU's lone singles victory on the court with a strong straight-set win at No. 4 singles, defeating Auset Bligen 6–4, 6–2. Kennedy Rollins added another point for ECSU with a win by default at No. 6 singles.

Kala Price battled at No. 1 singles before falling to Divija Manneni in straight sets, while Reichel Freytes (No. 2), Nadhira Durham (No. 3), and Micah Williams (No. 5) also competed hard in their respective matches.

Despite the narrow loss, ECSU showed resilience by capturing the doubles point and competing in several tough singles matches.
