Softball to Travel to Virginia Union, Host Virginia State this weekend

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State University softball team steps back into Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play this weekend as they travel to Virginia Union University on Saturday and will host Virginia State University on Sunday.

THE BASICS

Games:
ECSU at Virginia Union - Saturday, April 6th - 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - Virginia Union Softball Field, Richmond, Virginia
ECSU vs. Virginia State - Sunday, April 7th - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - South Park Athletic Complex, Elizabeth City, NC

Opponents:
Elizabeth City State - 6-18 Overall, 3-6 CIAA
Virginia Union - 7-14 Overall, 6-3 CIAA
Virginia State - 13-17 Overall, 9-2 CIAA

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Virginia Union comes into the contest with a 7-14 record overall and a 6-3 record in conference play. The Panthers went 4-3 against the Southern Division in the CIAA Round Up hosted by ECSU a few weeks ago. Recently the Panthers defeated Lincoln in a doubleheader last weekend and split with Bowie State last weekend as well.

Virginia State comes in with a 13-17 record overall and a 9-2 record against conference opponents. The Trojans went 5-2 against the Southern Division teams in the CIAA Round Up. Last weekend the Trojans swept both Bowie and Lincoln.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
ECSU comes into the contest with a 6-18 record overall, a 3-6 record in CIAA play, and the Vikings went 3-4 in the CIAA Round Up against Southern Division opponents. The Vikings have already played four games this week and have posted a 1-3 record. ECSU dropped two contests to Paul D. Camp Community College but split with Stratford University on Thursday, losing the first game 3-2 and winning the second contest 5-0.

Against Stratford, the Vikings were led by senior D'Asya Wilson who finished the doubleheader going 4-for-7 from the plate with three RBI. Sara Phillips pitched a sterling game in the second contest as the freshman pitched a complete game shutout, gave up only four hits, and only faced two batters over the minimum.
