Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- For the first time in eight years, the Elizabeth City State University women's tennis team defeated Virginia Union University, 4-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the ECSU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Virginia Union jumped out in doubles play and won all three matches, winning the doubles point.
Beatriz Neto and
Kaylee Williams dropped their match 6-3. Tenel Kearney and
D'Kota Hinton-Louis dropped their match 6-2 and
Sanda Oo and Jamiah Fiason dropped their hard fought match 6-2 as well.
When the match moved to singles competition ECSU found its footing as the Vikings took four out of the five completed singles matches.
Beatriz Neto dropped her match to Virginia Union's #1 single player by a 6-4, 6-0 score. Tenel Kearney defeated Mondesik from Virginia Union 6-0, 6-4.
Sanda Oo defeated her Union opponent by a 7-6 and 6-4 score. In the fourth slot
D'Kota Hinton-Louis split her matches with her Panthers opponent and as they headed into the tiebreaker did not need to finish the game due to ECSU winning the contest as a whole. When that occurred Hinton-Louis had a 1-0 lead in the tiebreaker set. Matewah Tamba defeated her Panther opponent in the fifth slot, 6-4 and 7-6.
Kaylee Williams rounded out the Viking effort by defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2.

The Vikings will travel to Virginia State University to face the Trojans in a crucial Northern Division battle on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings will then continue north for a doubleheader date at Bowie State University on Friday afternoon. The Vikings will round up their 2019 regular season competition with a contest on April 18th at Fayetteville State University.
