Softball Travels to Chowan for CIAA Doubleheader

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University softball team will make the 60-mile trip to Murfreesboro to face off in a doubleheader against conference rival Chowan on Saturday afternoon. These two contests will mark the final regular season contests between the two programs as conference foes as the Hawks will transition to Conference Carolinas for the 2019-2020 season.

THE BASICS

Records:
Chowan – 9-20 Overall, 5-2 CIAA
ECSU – 5-13 Overall, 3-4 CIAA

Location: Murfreesboro, N.C. (Hawks Softball Field)

OUTLOOK FOR THE VIKINGS

ECSU is coming off of a doubleheader sweep of conference rival St. Augustine's on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 5-2 and 17-9. The Vikings were led by Stephanie Komives and D'Aysa Wilson who both went 4-for-8 on the afternoon. Komives registered two RBI and Wilson registered three and a double during the two game set.

Offensively, the Vikings have found their stride as of late as they are averaging over seven runs per contest over the last nine games. Compare that number to the first nine games of the season when ECSU averaged less than a run per contest.

OUTLOOK FOR THE HAWKS

Chowan comes into the contest having split a doubleheader with Barton on Wednesday; dropping the first contest 14-4 in six innings and rebounding to win game two by an 8-6 margin. The Hawks have seen some success during the conference portion of the season having won five of their first seven conference matchups.

The Hawks are being led offensively by sophomore Beth Walker. The catcher and first baseman is batting .405 with 11 doubles, one triple and two home runs.
