Women's Basketball to Play Host to University of Mount Olive

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University women's basketball team will continue their home stand as they welcome in regional rival University of Mount Olive into the R.L. Vaughan Center for a 2 p.m. tip on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings are coming off of a tough defeat on Wednesday night against Puerto Rico Bayamon, 73-70. ECSU was down by ten with under a minute to go before scoring a flurry of points to get to within one before Bayamon would score one more basket for the final margin. The Vikings were led by junior forward Naterria Luster who poured in 19 points and 18 rebounds in the effort.

Luster is leading the Vikings offensively as the junior has averaged 19.7 points per game and 14 rebounds per contest. Freshman guard Asia Deal has provided a spark as the newcomer has contributed 15.7 points off of 45 percent shooting from the field. Senior guard Jalyn Brown has averaged 11 points per game and is currently leading the team in steals with 11 in three games.

The Trojans come into the contest having faced off against two other Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponents over the last week. UMO split those contests, picking up a 78-69 win at St. Augustine's to start the season but dropping a 67-55 decision to Chowan on Wednesday evening.

UMO sports two players averaging 17 points per game in Makayla Nichols and Jada Bacchus. The two juniors lead the offensive attack for the Trojans while averaging over 50 percent shooting from the field. Senior guard Felecity Havens also averages double figures with 14.5 points per game.
