Lady Vikings Fall Short at Chowan, Saturday Evening

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Elizabeth City State University women's basketball team fell 66-36 to Chowan University in the Helms Center Saturday evening.

With the loss, the Lady Vikings are 4-7 on the season, 2-3 in conference play and 0-1 in the CIAA North; while the Hawks improve to 11-4; 4-1.

Sophomore guard Jalyn Brown ignited 9-0 run for ECSU to open the contest; while holding Chowan to a four minute scoring drought. The Lady Vikings shot 41.7 percent from the floor and 100 percent from downtown in the first quarter, carrying a 12-8 lead into the second quarter.

ECSU shot 28.6 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from the behind the arc, and 43.8 percent from the candy stripe for the game.

Brown paced Elizabeth City State with nine points and added five boards. Junior guard Ty'Ais Cooper led the team in rebounds.

Dhyamond Crenshaw spearheaded the Hawks with 13 points; while Jordan Payne tallied 12 to round out the scorers in double-figures. Daniel Weldon and Chantel Roberts added six boards to lead Chowan defensively, respectfully.

ECSU will host Virginia State University Saturday, Jan. 21 in the Vaughan Center at 2 p.m.
