RALEIGH, NC- The Elizabeth City State University softball team dropped two shutout decisions Saturday afternoon at Walnut Creek Park.
The Lady Vikings had their chances in a 9-0 setback to Benedict College. Although they totaled only 5 hits in the game, ultimately ECSU failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position. The Lady Vikings stranded 7 on base including a bases loaded situation in the top of the fourth trailing 4-0.
The Lady Tigers broke the game open in their half of inning, scoring 5 runs on 5 hits and one ECSU error. The game wrapped for Benedict when ECSU failed to score in the top of the fifth inning.
In Saturday's nightcap, the Lady Vikings faced familiar foe in Virginia Union University but eventually fell to the Lady Panthers 8-0. It was the third non-conference the two teams have faced off in in the past week and VUU prevailed in each over ECSU. The Lady Panthers scored two in their first at bat then added two more in the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Beverly Smith and Jareece Sales both put up two RBI efforts and Maddie Harris picked up the win for Virginia Union.
The Lady Vikings will wrap up the weekend on Sunday against Clarion University.
