Elizabeth City State women's basketball team squandered a double-digit lead and went scoreless in the final two minutes of regulation before falling to Virginia State, 61-55, in overtime.
ECSU had led for most of the contest building a 49-38 lead in the fourth quarter before VSU went on an 14-3 run in the final 2:28 to force overtime at 52 all.
The Trojans outscored the Lady Vikings 9-3 in the overtime period to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
ECSU was led by Imani Heggins, who recorded a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the overtime period. She was joined by Jayln Brown with 11 points and Jasmine Nixon with 10.
VSU enjoyed balanced scoring from Nandi Taylor (14 pts), Wynterra Pitman (12 pts), Joy Hickman (12 pts) and Kaseula Cooper (10 pts) improving to 9-7 overall and 4-7 in the CIAA.
ECSU falls to 7-14 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
The Lady Vikings return to action on February 10 when they travel to Lincoln, Pa. to take on the Lady Lions of Lincoln University.
