Dec. 29, 2016 ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Coming off a tough 47-29 conference loss to Fayetteville State University, the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings open the second half of their season with a non-conference contest against Salem International University, Friday, Dec. 30 at the R. L. Vaughan Center before continuing conference play. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
ECSU enters Friday's contest with a 4-6 overall record and is 2-5 in non-conference games this season; while Salem International holds a 1-13 overall record.
Jiahna Flood-Francis paces the Spartans offense averaging 12.6 point per contest and collects 3.1 rebounds per game. Keishia Gilmore is second on the team with 10.2 points per game and in rebounds per contest with 3.7 for SIU. Defensively, Christy Gonzalez leads the Spartans with 4.8 boards per game.
The Lady Vikings are spearheaded by sophomore guard Jalyn Brown, who averages 11.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Senior forward Jazmine Nixon leads ECSU on the boards with 7.2 per contest. Elizabeth City State is shooting .341 from the floor, .190 from behind the arc, and .580 from the candy stripe so far this season.
In non-conference action this season, the Lady Vikings are shooting .345 from the field, .182 from downtown, and .565 from the line. Brown averages 9.4 points per contest in non-conference match-ups.
