ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Livingstone College used a huge third quarter to propel the Lady Blue Bears to a 70-49 victory over Elizabeth City State University Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Lady Blue Bears improve to 8-4 overall and 3-0 against CIAA competition this season. Zena Lovette led all scorers with 14 points and Brittany Taylor finished with 13 points and a game high 9 rebounds. Livingstone won the battle of the boards 48-34 and outscored ECSU in three of the four quarters played.
LC used a 27-7 run that spanned parts of the second and third quarters to take control of the game. They held their largest lead with 4:01 left in the third where a three pointer by Zena Lovette made the score 50-26 in favor the Lady Blue Bears.
Breona Jones topped ECSU's scorers with 13 points off the bench, 11 of which came in the second half. Jalyn Brown was the only other Lady Viking to notch double figure with 12 points.
Imani Heggins got the first score of the game at the 9:38 mark off an offensive rebound and put-back for ECSU's only lead of the evening. Both teams went scoreless from the floor until a three by Taylor gave the Lady Blue Bears a lead that they would hold for the rest of the game.
Livingstone held a 35-23 lead at the intermission and outscored ECSU in bench points 33-16.
ECSU (4-8, CIAA 1-3) will host Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday at 2pm at the RL Vaughan Center.
