LADY VIKINGS RALLY FOR 57-55 WIN OVER BOWIE STATE

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Elizabeth City State University placed four players in double figures in a 57-55 comeback victory over Bowie State University Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

The Lady Vikings faced a seven point in the closing quarter with 8:47 remaining. Breona Jones drained a three-pointer to cap a 10-0 ECSU run for a 52-49 lead with 3:49 left in the game. Bowie State hit only three shots from the floor in the deciding quarter and suffered through a seven minute scoring drought that ended when Kiara Colston hit a layup with 1:27 left.

Until that point, the Lady Vikings had trailed the entire contest with the exception of an early 5-3 advantage in the opening moments of the first quarter. Kiara Colston paced BSU's 34-27 halftime lead with 12 points and would go on to finish with a game high 23 points in 40 minutes of play.

Bowie State (9-11, CIAA 2-8) shot an astounding 58% from the field in the first half but their offensive attack cool considerably over the final 20 minutes. The Lady Bulldogs were just 7-32 from the floor in the second half (21%).

For ECSU, Imani Heggins was her team's leading scorer with 21 points.

After surrendering 34 points to the first half, the Lady Vikings held Bowie State to 21 second half points and only 10 during their fourth quarter rally. In the second half, the Lady Vikings got a much needed scoring lift from the trio of Jones, Alliyah Floyd and Jalyn Brown; all three finished with double figures as Jones shook off a scoreless first half to score 11 points, eight of which came in the final quarter, while Floyd and Brown both chipped in with 10 point efforts.

ECSU (6-12) will return to action in a non-conference matchup against Washington Adventist University on Tuesday in Takoma Park, MD. Game time is scheduled for 6pm.
