RICHMOND, VA- Virginia Union University improved to 14-2 overall (CIAA 6-2) with a convincing 86-57 win over Elizabeth City State University Wednesday night at Barco-Stevens Hall.
Imani Heggins finished the game with her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Kiana Johnson and Lady Walker both put up double-doubles for Virginia Union as Johnson scored game high 23 points. She pulled down 10 rebounds while Walker chipped in with 15 points and a game best 17 boards.
Taylor White and Jasalyn Denkins scored 10 apiece to round out VUU's double figure scorers.
After taking a seven point lead at the end of the opening quarter, the Lady Panthers seized control of the game by outscoring ECSU 27-17 in the second quarter for a comfortable 44-22 halftime advantage.
The Lady Vikings were limited to just 10 of 28 shooting in the first half including 0-5 from beyond the three point arc. ECSU was good on one of twelve attempts from downtown which came courtesy of Breona Jones with 7:59 left in the third quarter.
The Lady Panthers won the rebounding battle 47-40 including 21 off the offensive glass. Virginia Union's largest lead of the game, 78-44, came after two Lady Walker free throws with 4:32 remaining.
Jones finished with 15 points while Jalyn Brown tallied 12 points off the bench for the Lady Vikings.
ECSU (5-12, CIAA 2-7) will return to action for Winter Homecoming this Saturday against Bowie State at the RL Vaughan Center. Game time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
