ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings saw their four game losing streak come to an end with a 72-60 win over Chowan University Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.
The victory is their second division win of the year, both of which came at the expense of the Hawks. Chowan falls to 11-11 overall and 7-5 in the CIAA. Alisha Mobley led the Hawks in scoring with 18 points.
The Lady Vikings closed the first half on a 14-5 run to take a 30-25 lead at the intermission. In the first half ECSU out-rebounded the Hawks 21-14 including 11 on the offensive glass.
ECSU seized a 55-43 lead on a three pointer by Mikalia Frazier with 6:58 remaining and would maintain a double digit advantage for the rest of the game. Breona Jones' layup with 3:09 left made the score 62-42, their largest lead of the afternoon. The Lady Vikings shot 47% from the field in the second half and shot 24-36 from the free throw line for the game.
Breona Jones scored 18 points in the win while Jadda Jefferies finished with a game high 24 points.
ECSU (8-13, CIAA 3-9) will return to action on Wednesday, February 11th at the RL Vaughan Center when they play host to The Lincoln University. Game time is scheduled 5:30pm.
