LADY VIKINGS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT; DOWN BOWIE STATE 66-62

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Jasmine Nixon secured a late rebound and sank two go-ahead free throws as Elizabeth City State University defeated Bowie State University 66-62 Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

The game was a see saw affair with 16 lead changes, six of which came in the final 5:38 of regulation.

With the game knotted at 62 and 19 ticks left, BSU's Jasmine McIntosh's put-back attempt was blocked and rebounded by Nixon. McIntosh was whistled for a foul, sending Nixon to the line where she made both free throws to give ECSU a two point lead. On BSU's ensuing possession, Ty-Nita Baker was whistled for a player control foul, giving the ball back to the Lady Vikings.

Jadda Jefferies sank two free throws to secure the Lady Vikings fifth straight victory. Jefferies finished the night with 20 points while Breona Jones led ECSU with a team high 21 points.

Baker led all scorers with 32 points for Bowie State who slips to 9-16 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

Both teams had the lead for their share of the afternoon's game. Bowie State built a 7 point lead with 9:42 to go in the first half. Behind 10 first half points from Breona Jones, the Lady Vikings rallied back to tie the game, 29-29, at the intermission. The game was tied three times in the first 6 minutes of the second half until BSU took a five point lead (44-39) at the 12:51 mark. The remainder of the contest had 5 ties and 6 lead changes until Nixon's defensive stand set the stage for the win.

The Lady Vikings have unofficially secured the third seed in the CIAA Northern Division and will begin play at the 2015 CIAA Tournament on Tuesday, February 24th. Game time and opponent is yet to be released.
