Final Stats

PETERSBURG, VA- The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings picked up a pivotal division win with a 63-56 road victory over Virginia State University Saturday afternoon at Daniel Gymnasium.

The triumph extends the Lady Vikings win streak to three games and avenges the two point loss suffered at the hands of Virginia State back in January 24th at the RL Vaughan Center. The Lady Trojans, who have now dropped four straight, fall to 14-9 overall and 6-7 in the CIAA.

With 16:12 remaining a three-pointer by Aaliyah Floyd gave the Lady Vikings their biggest lead of the afternoon, a nine point spread 41-32. Virginia State reeled off a 13-3 run to take their only lead of the second half 45-44 with 9:29 to go.

Jadda Jefferies put her team on top with back to back floaters on ECSU's next two possessions. The Lady Trojans battled back to cut the lead to a point four times over the next few minutes, the final courtesy of two free throws by Dashae Jones with 3:41 left. Jefferies hit a jumper at the 2:16 mark and Breona Jones drained a three on ECSU's ensuing possession for a 59-53 advantage.

Tiffani Adair pulled VSU within four, 59-55 on a three point play but Jefferies and Jones countered with perfect free throw shooting in the final 19 seconds to seal the win for ECSU.

The Lady Vikings out-rebounded Virginia State 36-27 in the game and held a 32-26 lead at the intermission. Jones topped VSU's scoring with a 15 point effort while Jefferies and Jones paced ECSU with 21 and 16 points, respectively.

Jasmine Nixon scored 10 points to round out the Lady Vikings' double figure scorers.

ECSU (10-13, CIAA 5-9) will return to action on Wednesday at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
