LADY VIKINGS FALL TO SHAW UNIVERSITY 90-62

PETERSBURG, VA- Elizabeth City State University fell to Shaw University 90-62 on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Virginia State University Women's Basketball Thanksgiving Classic.

Imani Heggins scored a season high 20 points in a losing effort as the Lady Vikings slip to 0-4 on the year.

At the completion of one quarter, the Lady Bears led 18-6 after holding ECSU to just two made field goals. A Breona Jones three-pointer would pull the Lady Vikings within seven, 20-13, with 8:52 left in second quarter before Shaw went on a 13-2 run to take their biggest lead of the first half, 33-15. SU would match that spread with a score of 39-21 on a layup by Bryann Guyton with 27 seconds before the intermission.

After taking a 39-23 lead at halftime, the Lady Bears (4-1) carried momentum going into the third quarter, scoring a game-high 29 points to sustain their 68-43 lead going into the fourth. SU would hold the Lady Vikings to 19 points in the final quarter to seal the win.

SU finished the game shooting 52.4 percent from the field, while the Lady Vikings shot 36.8 percent. ECSU was outrebounded 50-36 and the Lady Bears' bench outscored the Lady Viking reserves 31-13. Eboni Ross paced the Lady Bears with a double-double of 30 points and 12 rebounds.

ECSU will face Nyack tomorrow at 1pm at Daniel Gymnasium on the campus of Virginia State University.
