COLUMBIA, SC- Elizabeth City State University and Benedict College began their 2015-16 campaigns Tuesday night with the Lady Tigers coming away with an 82-44 win at HRC Arena.
Arielle Harris and Mikalia Frazier led the ECSU scoring charge with 12 and 10 points, respectively. ECSU could not find an offensive rhythm Tuesday night, connecting on only 15-53 attempts from the field.
The Lady Tigers were relentless on the glass, out-rebounding the Lady Vikings 65-21. Benedict scored 27 points off of offensive rebounds and held a commanding 36-18 advantage in points in the paint. The home team led from the opening tip and was in front 43-18 after two quarters of play.
Benedict got the bulk of their scoring from their non-starters. Regime McCombs came off the bench to net a game high 19 points on 7-15 shooting, including 5-11 from beyond the three-point arc. KaDeeja Vaughn scored 14 while DaVontaye Merritt pulled down a game best 16 (11 offensive) rebounds.
ECSU (0-1) will return to action at the Lady Viking Classic this weekend at the RL Vaughan Center. On Saturday November 21, Wilmington University will face Winston-Salem State at 5pm followed by ECSU versus Washington Adventist at 7pm. On Sunday, WSSU will face off against Washington Adventist at 2pm before ECSU battles Wilmington at 4pm.
