SALISBURY, NC- Livingstone College moved to 13-0 overall and 4-0 in the CIAA with a 58-49 win over Elizabeth City State University Thursday night at New Trent Gym.
Although the Lady Blue Bears entered the game undefeated, they found themselves down to the upstart Lady Vikings at the intermission. After trailing by 8 early in the first half, ECSU orchestrated a 23-8 run to seize a 28-21 lead with 2:28 to go before the break. Livingstone faced a 28-23 deficit at halftime to an ECSU team that did not attempt a free throw in the first half.
LC converted 5 of 9 shots from the charity stripe before halftime.
In the second half Livingstone utilized their frontcourt to control the post against the undersized Lady Vikings. The Lady Blue Bears out-rebounded ECSU 26-14 and shot 50% from the floor with all but one attempt coming from inside the three point arc. Kyra Crosby was the only Lady Blue Bear in double figures with 16 points while Amber Curtis and Wende Foster led the rebounding effort with 8 boards apiece.
Jadda Jefferies led the charge for ECSU, with 15 of her game high 22 points coming in the first half. The Lady Vikings could not keep pace in the low scoring game as they struggled to find points in the second half. After the hot start, the ECSU offense cooled considerably over the final 20 minutes with only 21 points on 6-30 shooting.
Breona Jones also tallied double figures for ECSU with a season high 14 points.
ECSU (6-7, CIAA 1-3) will return to action on Saturday at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
