LADY BULLDOGS ESCAPE WITH 56-53 WIN OVER ECSU

BOWIE, MD- Bowie State hit a go ahead three pointer and sank two free throws in the closing seconds to seal a 56-53 win over Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon at the AC Jordan Arena.

With 2:36 remaining an offensive rebound and put-back by Arielle Harris gave ECSU a 53-51 lead. Ty-nita Baker cashed in from behind the three point line to give the lead back to the Lady Bulldogs. Over the last two minutes of regulation the two teams went cold from the floor, missing a combined 7 shots. With 24 seconds left, ECSU's last attempt at the lead, a layup by Breona Jones, missed its mark and Kyah Proctor closed out the game with two free throws for the final point spread.

Bowie State improves to 9-11 (CIAA 4-7, Division 2-3) with the victory over the Lady Vikings. Baker topped all scorers with 20 points and Donia Taylor finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Neither team had a good showing from the field in the low scoring affair. The Lady Vikings were 28% from the floor on 17-59 shooting while Bowie State faired only a little better at a 34% clip (15-44). Although the game had 10 lead changes and was tied on two separate occasions, the Lady Bulldogs held the lead for most of the contest with a nearly 35 minute time of possession.

Jadda Jefferies scored 19 to lead ECSU and Breona Jones chipped in with a 10 point effort.

ECSU (7-13, CIAA 2-9) will return to the court on Saturday, February 7 against Chowan University at the RL Vaughan Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2pm.
