Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC-The Saint Augustine's University Lady Falcons captured their fifth straight win with a 73-69 triumph over Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

ECSU's poor performance from the free throw line proved to be their Achilles heel in the setback on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Vikings missed 18 free throws in the contest, going a woeful 11-29 from the charity stripe in the four point loss. There were ties on eight different occasions, five lead changes and neither team led by more than 8 points during the game.

Jadda Jefferies tied the contest at 59 with 4:27 remaining and then gave ECSU their first lead since the opening moments of the second half with a basket at the 3:42 mark. Kaleisha Moore was then fouled on a made basket and sank a free throw to put the Lady Falcons back in front 62-61.

Chalise Greenwood then sank one of two from the free throw line for the final tie of the game, 62 all. SAU went back in front for good on another three point play, this time by SAU's Jeanne-Marie Wilson. The Lady Falcons were up by five with 37 seconds left after a jumper by Porscha Walton but Arielle Harris countered with a layup (Breona Jones assisted) to cut the lead to three (72-69) with 31 ticks left.

ECSU's three point attempt missed its mark in the closing seconds and Walton sank one of two from the free throw line for the final point spread.

With the win in what was their CIAA opener, the Lady Falcons move to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Wilson scored a team best 22 points while Walton went for 17 points.

Jadda Jefferies, who has tallied double figures in 10 of 11 outings this season, also finished with 22 points. Alliyah Floyd chipped in with 10 points off the bench for ECSU.

ECSU (5-6, CIAA 0-2) will finish their three-game home stand in a CIAA clash with Fayetteville State University on Monday at 5:30pm at the RL Vaughan Center.
