Jan. 17, 2015

Final Stats

MURFREESBORO, NC- Jadda Jefferies scored four points in the final 39 seconds as the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings captured a thrilling 62-60 win over Chowan University Saturday afternoon at the Helms Center.

Jefferies, the reigning CIAA Player of the Week matched her career high scoring 30 points in the win. With the victory in what was their division opener, the Lady Vikings snap a three game losing streak and capture their first road victory of the season.

The Lady Vikings held a 29-23 lead at halftime but faced a nine point deficit, 53-44, with 5:17 left in the game.

With 39 ticks on the clock Jefferies, on an assist from Breona Jones, hit a running backdoor layup to take a 60-58 lead over the Hawks. Chowan quickly responded courtesy of an Alisha Mobley layup with 21 seconds to go.

The Lady Vikings immediately called a timeout and then advanced the ball to the frontcourt and burned another timeout with 15 seconds left.

It was déjà vu as the Hawks were caught sleeping on the same Jones to Jefferies connection for a two point Lady Viking lead with 7 seconds to go. After the score ECSU burned their final timeout to challenge what would be Chowan's final attempt of regulation.

The Hawks got a great look at a tying layup but Jordan Payne's attempt rimmed out and ECSU escaped with the win.

Chowan was paced by Mobley's 17 points as the Hawks fall to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in CIAA play. Ashley Hughes notched her first double-double of the season for ECSU with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

ECSU (7-9, CIAA 2-5) will hit the road against Lincoln University on Wednesday, January 21st. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.
