Final Stats

Charlotte, NC-Johnson C. Smith University rallied from a three point halftime deficit to defeat Elizabeth City State University 73-65 Saturday evening at Brayboy Gymnasium.

Shanequa Phifer scored a game high 26 points for the Lady Golden Bulls who improve to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA.

Jadda Jefferies and Jasmine Boyd led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 24 and 10 points respectively.

An Anika Jones jumper at the 10:27 mark of the opening half gave the Lady Golden Bulls their first double digit advantage of the night, 20-10. The Lady Vikings reeled off a 16-5 run and on one of two made free throws by J'Neiya Burton, ECSU regained the lead (26-25) for the first time since a Jadda Jefferies' three-pointer at 16:37 made the score 7-5.

The last 1:54 before halftime featured only free throws by both teams with ECSU converting 7-8 to take a slim 33-29 lead into the locker room.

The game swung in the permanent favor of JCSU when a questionable charge was whistled against Breona Jones with 15:49 to go in the game. Two technical fouls were assessed to the ECSU bench and the Lady Golden Bulls extended their lead to seven, 43-36, on 3 of 4 free throws by Anika Jones.

JCSU then went on an offensive tear and with a Phifer three-pointer took their biggest lead of the game 62-44 with 6:52 left.

Even though the clock was their enemy, the Lady Vikings cut the JCSU lead to single digits five times in the closing minutes. Their last score, a three ball by Jadda with 23 seconds left trimmed the deficit to six but Asha Jordan sealed the win with two free throws for the final point spread.

ECSU (6-8, CIAA 1-4) will return to action on Monday night at Winston-Salem State University. Game
