Dec. 2, 2014 Final Stats
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Fayetteville State's Deja Middleton posted a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Broncos pushed past Elizabeth City State University 69-55 Monday night at Capel Arena.
Monday's meeting was a non-conference meeting between the two teams. They will meet again as a part of the regular season CIAA doubleheader (women and men) on January 5, 2014 in Elizabeth City.
The two teams played to a 34-34 tie at the intermission but arrived at their respective points in two very different ways. The Lady Broncos were 60% from the field (9-15) and went 15-20 from the free throw line. ECSU fired at a lower percentage clip from the floor, 38% on 10-26 shooting with 9 of their attempts coming from behind the three point arc.
The Lady Vikings were 11-14 from the free throw line in the first half but only took four shots from the charity stripe in the second half. On the other hand the Lady Broncos were able to make the most of their scoring from the free throw line going 9-11 in the second half (24-31 for the game).
Jadda Jefferies and Jasmine Boyd both hit double figures in the first half and Jefferies finished the night with a game high 22 points.
Jefferies nailed a three-pointer and followed with a layup with 17:06 remaining to take a 41-38 lead. FSU exploded with what would be a game clinching 12-0 run from which the Lady Vikings would never regroup. The scoring drought was a part of a second half where ECSU was held to just 21 points on 21% shooting.
ECSU (2-4) will return to action on Tuesday, December 9 as a part of a home double header against Barton College. Game times are scheduled for 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
