WILDCATS EDGE LADY VIKINGS IN OVERTIME 73-70

ETTRICK, VA- The Wilmington University Wildcats squeezed out a 73-70 overtime win over Elizabeth City State University at the Chick-fil-A Classic Friday afternoon at Daniel Gymnasium.

The Wildcats earn their first win over the season courtesy of a 26 point performance by Jasmine Lee. Lee's totals gave WU a 46-14 scoring advantage in bench points and she fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 9 boards.

Jadda Jefferies led ECSU with 22 points while Arielle Harris tallied a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The two teams played almost even scoring 36 points apiece in the paint. Additionally the largest lead either team held was by 10 points; WU's came at the 12:33 mark of the first half while ECSU took a 36-26 advantage on a layup by Jadda Jefferies with 14:42 left in the game. That score by Jefferies capped a 13-2 run which began at the start of the second half.

Wilmington (1-5) led 24-21 at the intermission however the Lady Vikings had a six point turnaround to send the game to the extra session tied at 59.

After Jefferies completed a three point play with 2:02 left in regulation, ECSU held a 59-54 lead. Jasmine Lee then gave the Wildcats life, sinking two free throws and getting a steal a layup with 1:31 to go. With 48 seconds left Ebonee Dixon hit one of two from the line to send the game to overtime.

In the extra session the Lady Vikings' took a 68-64 advantage on a three pointer by Jasmine Boyd with 2:02 to go. Dixon then countered with a layup and free throw to pull WU within a point. After an ECSU miss the two teams exchanged baskets, one by Lee the other by Boyd before Dixon's layup with 32 ticks proved to be the go ahead bucket and a 71-70 score.

Dixon hit two free throws with four second remaining to seal the win.

ECSU (1-3) will return to action tomorrow against Cheyney University tomorrow at 1pm at Daniel Gymnasium on the campus of Virginia State University.
