Nov. 23, 2014 Final Stats
ATLANTA, GA- Clark-Atlanta's Whitney Collins' jumper with 1:58 remaining proved to be the game winner as the Lady Panthers seized a 54-53 win from Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon.
The basket that gave CAU the win represented one of three times that the Lady Panthers led in the contest. ECSU held the lead for more than 35 minutes of the game to just 2:34 for Clark-Atlanta.
The stage was set for Collins' heroics when she corralled an offensive board and scored off a missed jumper by Denissea Law. Two possessions earlier Collins tied the game at 49 apiece until Jasmine Boyd countered for ECSU with a layup for the lead at the 3:47 mark.
Mykala Jones then connected on her third 3-pointer of the afternoon to put CAU (1-1) up by one 52-51. On ECSU's ensuing possession a Jadda Jefferies jumper put the Lady Vikings back in front, 53-52 with 3:10 remaining.
After Clark-Atlanta next offensive possession came up empty, ECSU had a chance to pad their lead at the free throw line but missed the front end of a one and one which set up the game's final basket. Collins' game winner capped a 19 point outing, which she did as a reserve and finished as the afternoon's leading scorer.
Jasmine Nixon and Arielle Harris paced ECSU with 14 and 11 points respectively.
ECSU (0-2) will return to action next weekend at the Virginia State University Thanksgiving Classic in Ettrick, VA. Follow on Twitter @ECSUVikings and visit www.ecsuvikings.com for more information.
