RALEIGH, NC-Verdine Warner scored a team high 14 points to lead the Shaw University Lady Bears past Elizabeth City State University 69-50.
Bryann Guyton added a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds as Shaw moves to 2-1 on the season. It was a non-conference game for the two teams who will open their CIAA season on January 1st in Elizabeth City. Jadda Jefferies led ECSU with a game high 19 points. The Lady Bears held a 38-30 lead at halftime on 13-25 shooting (52%) shooting.
Shaw used an 11-4 run near the start of the second half to take control of the contest. A rebound and put-back by Verdine Warner at the 6:55 mark gave the Lady Bears a 59-43 advantage. ECSU struggled offensively shooting at a 29.1 % clip for the game, 26% in the second half as the Lady Bears pulled away.
The Lady Bears largest lead of the game was 66-46 with 3:05 left in the game.
The two teams combined for 59 turnovers in the game 30 which went against ECSU.
The Lady Vikings will return to action this weekend at a tournament hosted by Clark-Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia.
