FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Fayetteville State University held off a late Elizabeth City State University rally for a 63-59 win over the Lady Vikings Monday afternoon at Capel Arena.

Derricka Henry scored a team high 18 points and Tyche' Mozie had her best outing of the season with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

ECSU faced their largest deficit of the game, a twelve point margin of 53-41 with 4:51 remaining in the game. The Lady Vikings outscored FSU 18-9 in the closing minutes and on a three-point shot by Jadda Jefferies, trailed 62-59 with 6 seconds left.

After a called timeout by ECSU, their defense forced a Fayetteville State turnover, giving the ball back to the Lady Vikings with four seconds to go.

Fayetteville State got the ball right back after an illegal screen was whistled on ECSU's ensuing possession. The call drew protest and a technical foul was accessed to the Lady Viking bench. Akysia Resper sank one of two free throws for the final point spread, sending ECSU to their fifth straight loss.

The Lady Broncos (9-3, CIAA 2-1) enjoyed a comfortable advantage from the free throw line, converting 31-41 attempts while ECSU went to the line 22 times where they converted 14 shots.

The two teams combined for 54 called fouls on Monday. Deja Middleton paced FSU with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Amber Calvin led all scorers with 19 points.

The Lady Vikings led 24-21 at halftime and held their largest lead of the game, 24-15 at the 3:33 mark of the first half.

ECSU (3-9, CIAA 0-3) will return to action on Thursday against Livingstone College at the RL Vaughan Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm and admission will be just $1 with a non-perishable item in support of the Food Bank of the Albemarle.
