Final Stats

PETERSBURG, VA-The #15 ranked Virginia State University Lady Trojans held off an upstart effort from Elizabeth City State University, defeating the Lady Vikings 79-19 in overtime Saturday afternoon at Daniel Gymnasium.

Although the Lady Trojans held a 68-63 lead with 2:00 minutes left in regulation Deshera Boone buried a jumper in the paint with 19 seconds remaining to knot game at 68. The basket capped 5-0 ECSU run to send the game to an extra five minutes.

In similar fashion, Lady Vikings closed the first half with a 14-4 run and on a Tyche' Mozie layup tied the game at 33 at halftime.

After shooting a blistering 60% from the floor in the second half, ECSU went 1-8 from the floor in overtime, including 0-4 from behind the three-point line. The Lady Trojans fared slightly better due to 9-12 shooting from the free throw line. VSU outscored ECSU 11-3 in the extra session.

After Boone hit the first basket of the game, a three-pointer, the Lady Trojans took the lead with 3 of 4 free throws by Lamesha Deal and a shot from beyond the three point arc from Pryncess Tate--Dublin at the 17:16 mark. Virginia State (15-1, CIAA 6-1) led the entire first half and with 6:06 remaining before the intermission, took their largest lead of the game (29-19).

Boone paced four Lady Vikings in double figures with a team high 18 points. Mozie and Jadda Jefferies chipped in with 12 apiece while Jasmine Boyd scored 10 points. Tiffanie Adair led all scorers performers posting a double-double, and game highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds.
