ELIZABETH CITY, NC-The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings extended their win streak to ten games with a 58-53 win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania Wednesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
ECSU had to rally from a 24-20 halftime deficit against the upstart Lady Lions. Lincoln got 10 first half points from Courtney Smith and out-rebounded the Lady Vikings 24-19 over the first twenty minutes of play. The Lady Lions also shot a solid 80% (12-15) from the free throw line in the first half while the Lady Vikings were 0-1 from the line and 0-10 from three point range.
With 13:29 to go in the game DaShera Boone sank a three-pointer to give ECSU a brief 33-32 lead. After Lincoln countered with a layup by Zephrah Pam, the Lady Vikings went in front for good with two layups from Ya'Shonti Bridgers and another three-ball by Boone to take a 40-34 advantage with 9:38 left.
Lincoln (8-15, CIAA 4-9) committed 12 turnovers in the second half and the Lady Vikings capitalized by scoring 16 points off the miscues. The Lady Lions had 31 turnovers on the evening.
ECSU led by 10 points with 2:47 remaining in the game on a layup by Shatara Jackson. Stephanie Harper led all players in the low scoring affair with 13 points. Smith and Cynthia Johnson paced Lincoln with 12 points apiece.
