Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Elizabeth City State University led from the opening tip and never looked back in route to a convincing 77-49 win over Chowan University Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The victory runs the Lady Vikings' win streak to nine games and they remain in first place in the CIAA Northern Division with a 6-0 mark. They have not lost a game since the 75-70 setback to Fayetteville State on January 7, their only CIAA loss of the season.
ECSU held a commanding 42-17 lead at the intermission. In the first half the Lady Vikings held the Hawks to just 8 points until two free throws by Janelle Murphy at the 3:30 mark finally put Chowan in double digits. Unfortunately at the point Chowan (4-17, CIAA 4-8) trailed 42-10, the second largest deficit they faced in the contest.
ECSU's largest lead of the night was a 34 point spread after a Shatara Jackson layup on the possession before Murphy's free throws. Defensively the Lady Vikings pestered the Hawks into 35 turnovers which the converted into 48 points. ECSU also outscored Chowan 36-18 in the paint.
T'Shea Glenn was the only Hawk to net double figures on the evening with 11 points.
Shatara Jackson anchored the ECSU defense, matching her career best with 7 steals on the night. She also led all scorers with a game high 22 points. Jasmine Whitehurst chipped in with 13 points and DaShera Boone added 11 points off the bench.
