Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Regime McCombs scored a game high 18 points as the Saint Augustine's University Lady Falcons upended Elizabeth City State University 58-47 Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
McCombs, the only player in double figures for either squad, scored 11 of her points in the second half and finished the game with five of SAU's six made three pointers.
After trailing ECSU 23-21 at halftime, the Lady Falcons had to fend off foul trouble as 10 infractions put the Lady Vikings in the double bonus with 13:55 left in the game. Till that point Saint Augustine's had open the second half on a 17-6 run for a 38-30 lead.
ECSU then went on an 8-2 scoring spurt to pull within a basket, 40-38, at the 11:19 mark. The Lady Vikings kept SAU within gunning distance, trailing by no more than 5 points over the next 5 minutes.
With 6:24 left, a layup by Ashley Hughes again made the ECSU deficit two points 47-45. The Lady Vikings then proceeded to misfire on their next six attempts from the field and committed three costly turnovers while the Lady Falcons filled the same span with 9 straight points.
The Lady Vikings' 15 made field goals versus the Lady Falcons is their lowest output of the season.
ECSU (3-5) will return to action on Wednesday, December 8th when Clark-Atlanta University visits the RL Vaughan Center. Game time is scheduled for 6pm. Follow on Twitter @ECSUVikings and visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
