ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Derrick Henry scored 12 points and dished out 8 assists as Elizabeth City State University defeated Fayetteville State University 64-53 in non-conference action Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
Henry also added a career best six steals in the victory, which drops the Lady Broncos to 3-2 overall on the year.
After the two teams dueled to within two points of each other at the 6:30 mark (ECSU 18-16), the Lady Vikings closed the first half on a 17-6 run, seizing their first double digit lead of the game and a 36-22 at the intermission.
The game saw only one tie early on (2-2) however once ECSU pulled ahead on a 7-2 run their lead was never relinquished. The Lady Vikings held FSU to 1-13 shooting from long range but gave up a 34-24 advantage in the paint.
The Lady Broncos faced a 22 point deficit with 8:29 left in the game but fought to the wire cutting the lead to single digits, 60-51, with 2:03 to play. Ya'Shonti Bridgers hit a layup with 1:38 left and Henry sank two free throws at the 1:09 mark to seal the game.
Deja Middleton and Sequoia Morton posted double-doubles in the loss for Fayetteville State.
