Nov. 20, 2013

Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Elizabeth City State University placed three scorers in double figures and held on for a 56-55 win over Barton College Wednesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

Derricka Henry led the way with a team high 15 points while DaShera Boone chipped in with 11 points. Ya'Shonti Bridgers collected her first double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

The score was knotted at 12 before a layup by Jasmine Boyd at the 9:54 mark gave ECSU a lead that they would never relinquish. The Lady Vikings' largest lead, 26-16, came with 5:43 left before the intermission and they led 30-25 at the break.

Their 30 point output in the first half of Wednesday night's game was their highest scoring half of the season.

With 17:34 left in the game the Lady Bulldogs (2-3 overall) pulled within a point (33-32) before ECSU used a 7-2 run to push the margin back to eight at the 14:07 mark. Barton pulled within a point on two more occasions, the latter during desperation time as Ashley Thornton hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining.

That would account for the game's last basket and subsequently the final point spread as Barton was unable to foul and extend the game after ECSU got the ball inbounds.

Nyeshea Willie led all scorers with a game high 17 points.

ECSU (1-3) will return to action on Saturday, November 23 when they travel to face Mount Olive College. Game time is scheduled for 12noon. Follow on Twitter @ECSUVikings and log onto www.ecsuvikings.com for more information.
