Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Shaw University Lady Bears improved to 2-0 on the season with a 56-44 win over Elizabeth City State University in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.
Ariel Hatcher came off the bench and poured in a double-double, posting game highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Verdine Warner was the only Lady Bear starter to reach double figures with 10 points and 4 blocks.
The Lady Vikings shot only 27% from the floor for the game, beginning with a 33% outing in the first half (10 for 30) but only trailed Shaw 28-24 at the intermission. DaShera Boone was the only Lady Viking to put up double figures with 11 points. She also added 4 assists and 5 steals in the losing effort.
Shaw University made the most of their time at the free throw line going 14-29 from the charity stripe while the Lady Vikings took only 7 shots, 6 of which they converted.
ECSU trailed with 8:28 left 45-41 but Shaw went on a 13-0 run to push the margin to double digits and put the game out of reach. The Lady Bears' largest lead of the afternoon (13 points) came with 4:45 to go.
Neither team scored from the field with the exception of exchanged baskets, a 3 -pointer by Jasmine Boyd (4:23) and a Warner layup with 3:52 left in the game.
