ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Shatara Jackson scored a game high 25 points as the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings toppled Saint Augustine's University 70-60 Saturday at the RL Vaughan Center.
With the win ECSU moves to 10-2 on the year and first place in the CIAA Northern Division having opened their conference schedule with a 2-0 mark. Jasmine Whitehurst was the only other Lady Viking to register double figures with 12 points.
The Lady Falcons' only lead of the game came in the games' opening minutes but ECSU charged ahead to capture a 13 point advantage at the 4:48 mark and took a 38-31 lead the intermission.
Saint Augustine's (5-6, CIAA 1-1) got a scoring lift from their bench courtesy of reserve player Terri Jacobs. Jacobs finished with a team best 18 points, 14 of which she scored in the first half. In the second half the Lady Falcons cut into ECSU's double digit lead on three occasions and with 7:27 remaining trailed 55-53. The Lady Vikings then reeled off a 13-4 capped by a Whitehurst three-pointer with 1:22 left to play to seal the win.
The Lady Viking defense helped ECSU with a decided edge in points off turnovers 29 to 12.
