LADY PANTHERS TOP ECSU LADY VIKINGS 60-44

RICHMOND, VA- Virginia Union University's Danielle Ferguson scored a game high 20 points as the Lady Panthers defeated Elizabeth City State University 60-44 Saturday evening at Barco-Stevens Hall.

With the win Virginia Union moves to 9-11 overall while ECSU slips to 12-9 on the year. Both teams sport identical 6-5 records in the CIAA.

The Lady Vikings shot a season low 26% on the evening connecting on only 16-61 attempts from the floor.

A three pointer by Jasmine Whitehurst with 6:19 left in the game pulled ECSU within four points, 46-42. Then Lady Panthers went on an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach. Meanwhile ECSU misfired on their next five possessions. Their only field goal in the game's back stretch came on a Whitehurst jumper with 26 seconds remaining.

Virginia Union also shot 11-19 from the free throw line, including 10-18 in the second half alone. Comparably the Lady Vikings only went to the free throw line 5 times, converting all five attempts.

Although ECSU got a 16 point 14 rebound outing from Stephanie Harper, the Lady Vikings were outscored in the paint 34-16 and were out-rebounded by the Lady Panthers 45-32.

Harper's double-double was her eighth of the year and she was the only Lady Viking to net double figures on Saturday.
