ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Elizabeth City State University placed five players in double figures but it was not enough as Virginia Union rallied to defeat the Lady Vikings in overtime 82-73 on Senior Night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Lady Vikings trailed 65-64 with 16 seconds left in regulation when Stephanie Harper hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give ECSU a 67-65 lead. VUU's Vicki Collier then tied the game with a layup with 8 seconds left to force the extra session.
In the overtime, the Lady Panthers seized control quickly, reeling off a 9-0 spurt for a 76-67 advantage. In the extra session, the Lady Panthers went 4-8, from the floor including 2-2 from downtown and 5-8 from the free throw line.
ECSU made a season best 11 three pointers but were outscored in the paint 36-28 and lost the rebounding battle 42-36.
Collier topped all scorers with 24 points as Virginia Union captures their first division title in nine years. The Lady Panthers finish with a 7-3 mark in the division and improve to 12-13 overall.
Stephanie Harper collected her 13 double-double of the year with 21 points and 17 rebounds while DeAudra Brown and Jasmine Walker chipped in with 12 points apiece.
