Final Stats
PETERSBURG, VA-Virginia State University closed the first half on a 17-5 run and held on to defeat the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings 64-51 Monday evening at Daniel Gymnasium.
The Lady Trojans improve to 14-11 on the season and earn a season split with Elizabeth City State.
Defensively the Lady Trojans held their opponents at bay by limiting ECSU to a season low 26 total rebounds. Meanwhile Virginia State crashed the boards with 41 rebounds and outscored the Lady Vikings' bench 39-10.
The Lady Vikings orchestrated a late run and with 4:56 left two free throws by Jasmine Walker cut the lead to six, 52-46. Virginia State responded with a quick 8-0 run to push the lead back to double digits to close out the game.
Virginia State went 18-27 from the free throw line to 8-10 shooting for the Lady Vikings.
Da'Shae Jones led Virginia State and all scorers with 16 points. Wykeemia Gray was the high player for the Lady Vikings 14 points.
